Ways to get involved
Volunteer
All Community Recreation Department Youth Sports are powered by volunteers.
Our youth teams are coached by volunteer coaches. If you would like to coach your child’s team, please let us know by noting it with their registration. Parents, older siblings, family members, or friends are encouraged to sign up. Coaches are needed for baseball/softball, flag football, and basketball. If you would like to volunteer to help coach, please complete the background check below.
The District Administrator is to inform each volunteer that they:
- Shall agree to abide by all Board policies and District guidelines while on duty as a volunteer;
- Will be covered under the District's liability policy but the District cannot provide any type of health insurance to cover illness or accident incurred while serving as a volunteer, nor is the person eligible for workers compensation;
- Will be asked to sign an injury as a result of his/her volunteer services;
- In accepting the role of a volunteer, agrees to verification that a satisfactory background check may be conducted through appropriate State agencies or other applicable means.
Upon completion of the satisfactory background check you will be able to volunteer for any school in the Sheboygan Area School District.

Special Needs
A sponsorship towards special needs will be used to accommodate students in our programs needing special services, such as hearing interpreters or adaptive recreational equipment. In addition, a sponsorship for special needs could be used for supplies for our Able in Action group that meets once a month on Thursdays.
Any donation is appreciated.
Summer Events
If you are looking for something unique to sponsor, we have several special events which would benefit from your support. The Recreation Department hosts an outdoor movie night at Vollrath Park during the summer as well as three carnivals throughout the city. Over 2,500 children typically participate in our events.
Sponsorships of any amount are welcome.
Sheboygan Theatre
Many people don’t know that the Sheboygan Theatre Company is under the Recreation Department umbrella. This treasured organization has been offering extracurricular and educational opportunities to residents of every age for over 90 years, not to mention decades of entertainment to audiences. Become a show sponsor or purchase a program ad to get in front of the 1,500 or more patrons who attend every STC show.
Donate
The Recreation Department programs need many household items that you may no longer want or need. The students and teachers in our programs are very creative. The crafts and projects they make from your donations are very unique, imaginative and educational.
Your item donations will be turned into fun, learning, and enrichment for people of many ages and interests.
We are open to accepting a wide variety of items. Here are some suggestions:
- Household items: paper towel/toilet paper rolls, empty cans and containers, plastic lids, mason jars, etc.
- Craft items: markers, crayons, paint, tape, glue, scissors, pencils, paper, yarn, etc.
- Toys: books, board games, puzzles, toys, stuffed animals.
If you are looking to donate something not listed above, please contact us at 459-3773 to see if we can use it.
Advisory Board
The purpose of the Advisory Board is to provide residents with an opportunity to strengthen the process by which the department enhances the recreational opportunities within the school district. The board meets 3 to 4 times per year with meetings scheduled during the lunch hour. If you are interested in serving as a member of the Community Recreation Advisory Board or have a topic for the council to consider, please call the Director of Recreation Jody Brooks at 459-3777.
